Baton Rouge and Denham Springs, owner-led and licensed since 2013

Baton Rouge landscaping, drainage and sprinkler systems. Beautiful yards that stay dry.

We find where your yard holds water, drain it the right way, and then build the beds, turf, sod and sprinklers on top so it still looks right years from now. Owner Gerardo Hernandez walks the job himself and tells you straight what it needs.

Which one sounds like your yard?

Four kinds of calls make up most of our week. Pick yours and we will show you exactly how we handle it.

  • 01

    The standing-water homeowner

Water sits for days after rain, backs up onto the patio, or creeps toward the slab. Often started after a neighbor built, raised a lot or added a pool.

  • 02

    The backyard renovator

Tired, overgrown landscaping. Wants a new design with beds, sod, lighting and irrigation done as one project.

  • 03

    The no-mow upgrader

A small area around the pool, a muddy dog run, or a backyard putting green where real grass keeps failing.

  • 04

    The sprinkler repair call

A broken head, a leaking valve or a zone that will not turn on. Needs a licensed tech, fast.

Water first

A landscape that floods is not finished.

Grade, drainage and irrigation come before anything decorative. Most drainage quotes are a number. Ours starts with a walk to the last spot in your yard to dry out, and ends with pipe running downhill to a real exit.

“Water runs downhill. If your yard doesn't have a way out, it's finding a way in.”

Five things we are known for

From the drainage underneath to the plants on top

Five things we are known for, and the crew that does all of them. No hand-offs between the plan and the finished yard.

    Landscaping

    Landscaping

A landscape renovation is where everything comes together: the old beds come out, a new design goes in, and the drainage, irrigation, rock, edging and lighting happen as one project by one crew. We recommend what the yard needs, not what carries the biggest markup.

  • A sprinkler line trenched along the curb of a Baton Rouge front lawn, with the sod set aside to go back over it

    Sprinkler Systems

Searching for irrigation companies near me usually turns up mowing crews without a license. Irrigation work in Louisiana requires one.

  • Freshly installed artificial turf with clean curved edges around a palm tree, bordered by stamped concrete

    Artificial turf

    Artificial Turf

Turf goes where real grass keeps failing: the strip beside the pool, the dog run, the shaded backyard that never fills in. We install it ourselves on a compacted base that drains, in the pile height and color that fits the yard.

  • A freshly mowed lawn with crisp edging beside a trimmed boxwood hedge and dark mulch bed

    Lawn care

    Lawn Care

We are not a one-time mow-and-go crew. Lawn care at Hernandez Lawnscape runs on year-round plans, weekly or biweekly, so the same crew knows your yard and the edges never grow back in.

    Pool Surround Artificial Turf

The narrow strip between a new pool and the fence, where grass never had a chance, rebuilt as a compacted base with artificial turf and white rock edging.

“Gutters without drainage to discharge out to the street or a ditch is not really worth it. They just bring all the water down to your foundation.”

Why Hernandez

Seven reasons the neighbors call us

In a trade full of unlicensed crews and upsells, trust decides the job. Every one of these is real and checkable.

The long version
  1. 01

    Drainage that actually drains

Find the last spot to dry, trench from there, and run pipe at a 2 percent fall to a real discharge point. Gravity first, pumps last, because pumps fail when the power does.

  2. 02

    Honest scope, not plant markup

Big companies lean on heavily marked-up plants. We recommend what the yard needs. Advice before upsell.

  3. 03

    Licensed for irrigation

Sprinkler systems are installed and repaired under Louisiana irrigation contractor license IC #0866, the credential most mowing crews do not carry.

  4. 04

    Free design on full renovations

Larger projects include a design Gerardo draws himself in Morpholio Trace, so the plan and the build come from the same set of hands.

  5. 05

    One crew, start to finish

Design, demo, drainage, irrigation, sod, turf and edging are handled in-house. No hand-offs between the plan and the finished yard.

  6. 06

    Warranty on what we control

Irrigation, drainage and artificial turf are warrantied. Living plants cannot honestly be guaranteed, and we say so upfront.

  7. 07

    Thirteen years of neighbors

Since 2013, with a 4.9-star Google rating and a BBB A+. Customers stay for years and bring their families' homes with them. Reputation is the product.

Before you call

The questions we get on the first call

Is Hernandez Lawnscape licensed and insured?
Yes. We are insured and bonded. We hold Louisiana landscape horticulturist license LH #4774, Gerardo is an NDS certified professional drainage contractor, and we hold Louisiana irrigation contractor license IC #0866 for sprinkler installation and repair. You can verify Louisiana landscape licenses through the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
How do you decide where a drain goes?
We start with one question: where is the last part of the yard to dry out after rain? That low spot is where the system starts. From there we trench toward a discharge point that is lower, usually the street or a ditch, so the pipe runs at about a 2 percent fall and gravity does the work.
How much does a quote cost?
There is a $50 on-site assessment fee, and it is credited toward the installation. You receive an itemized quote by email so you can see what each part costs.
What do you not do?
One-time mowing (lawn care runs on year-round plans; one-time cleanups are available), fertilization and lawn treatment programs (a separate state license we do not hold), and concrete or hardscape construction. If a job is outside our scope we say so and point you to someone licensed for it.
What is warrantied?
Drainage, irrigation and artificial turf installations carry our warranty. Living plants depend on weather and watering after we leave, so we do not pretend to guarantee them. Every job carries our 100 percent satisfaction guarantee: if you are not satisfied, we make it right free of charge.

Tell us where the water stands.

We come out, walk the yard with you, and tell you straight what it needs. Same-day callbacks, itemized quotes, one crew from the plan to the last edge.
